You want to make good food? Start with good food. I do this in 2 ways.
- In the summer, I have a garden. I believe this passion stems from my grandma, Evelyn. Growing your own food is one of the most satisfying feelings, and it’s actually pretty easy. My garden isn’t too sophisticated. I got plants from my local home improvement store that I knew would work well in my gardening zone. Note: you can easily look this up online. I picked out plants that I knew my husband and I like and ones that will freeze easily if we end up with a large crop such as peppers, tomatoes, corn, etc. Additionally, I always have some herbs planted – specifically basil and parsley I use all the time.
- I’m aware of where my meat is coming from. Usually, I get beef from my parents farm, but when I’m in the grocery store, I review the packaging to see where the meat came from and how the animals were fed and treated. Meat can be expensive; especially good meat. When there are sales, don’t be embarrassed to walk out with 4 or 5 packages and just throw them in the freezer. Pro-tip: Aldi has a surprisingly good meat section for super reasonable prices; I have heard the same about Walmart.
